Rock climbing and Via ferrata in Picos de Europa
Klettersteig or Via Ferrata
– Climbing route where you belay yourself along a metal cable installed on the route. The cable is anchored in the mountain every few meters so that you do not go down a long section in case of a fall.
You can do this in two places:
In Camaleño (with the most beautiful view of the Picos) or in La Hermida (with the beautiful hanging bridges), both about 15 minutes by car from the farm.
Depending on your experience, you can follow the routes independently and possibly rent equipment. You can also choose to be accompanied by a guide.
Different levels, for beginners and advanced (K2, K4, K5).
Price: about €40 p.p. (depending on the size of your group) you can reserve a guide, insurance and equipment.
If you go independently and have your own equipment, it’s free. And renting via ferrata equipment costs €15.

Rock Climbing
The Picos de Europa are known as one of the places with the best rocks to climb. There are fantastic climbing routes hidden in its walls. It hasn’t been discovered by everyone yet, so you can still enjoy a climb here in peace. There are countless options for sport climbing and trad climbing, with or without a guide.
There are different areas where you can climb, some are close to the finca, but for some in the middle of the Picos you need more than one day staying overnight in a refuge, which is also a nice experience.
By Urriellu (Naranjo de Bulnes) for example: you have to count 2 days for this (one day to arrive and one day to go up and walk back, with an overnight stay in refugio de la Vega de Urriello)

In La Hermida (20 minutes from the finca, direction Santander) p.e. you will find a lot of Sports climbing routes.
In the finca’s application you will find a lot of information about the different climbing places and routes.
With your reservation at La Finca Roja, you will also receive access to the finca’s app. In this app you will not only find all the information about your accommodation, but also about places of interest and activities in the town and the region. This way you can prepare your trip on time, plan activities, rent equipment and possibly book guides or study topos. This app also contains advice on the contents of your backpack, which boots are suitable and, for example, exercises to prepare for your trip.
